Easy Spanish Recipes
Easy Spanish recipes - reading them and trying to make them
- can be a very useful way of practicing the language you've
learned - as long as you use the original recipe in Spanish, of
course. They can also be extremely delicious! And there are
many different dishes and recipes from all the diverse areas of
Spain and Latin America. So, let's begin our search for those
easy Spanish recipes.
Spanish Recipes on the Web
Our favorite page of recipes is Recetas Favoritas de España (Favorite Recipes
from Spain). You'll find recipes for the following
popular Spanish dishes (you can choose whether to read them
in English or Spanish):
- Paella
- Spanish omelet
- Crème Caramel
- Mayonnaise
- Etc.
Other useful pages with easy Spanish recipes are usually
only to be found in Spanish, and can be quite confusing - it's
often difficult to tell the difference between real traditional
Spanish dishes and more international-type recipes. However,
Recetas - Tapas, Recetas, Historia (Recipes -
Tapas, Recipes, History) has a very well chosen
selection of Spanish recipes. One of my favorites is "callos
a la madrileña", or tripe, Madrid style.
Another good website is Hispanic and Spanish Recipes Directory.
The advantage of this site is that it includes recipes from
other Spanish-speaking countries as well as from Spain.
One other site with Spanish recipes is Traditional Spanish Recipes in Spanish,
also written in Spanish. It contains different paella
recipes, delicious salads, recipes from some of Spain's best
restaurants, Spanish desserts, tapas, regional dishes and
even vegetarian recipes, with suggestions for diets.
If you prefer to see a site with a majority of Spanish
American recipes, try Spanish Recipes. You'll find recipes for
soups, desserts, accompaniments, salads, confectionery, main
dishes, drinks and appetizers - a very complete list.
Spanish Recipes in Books
The best book I've found is Cocina de la familia (200 authentic Mexican
recipes). The book is written in Spanish, but, rather
than a collection of recipes from Mexico, it is more a
compendium of dishes eaten by Mexican families in the
USA.
Another very good recipe book is La Cocina Hispano-Americana: Traditional &
Modern Recipes in English & Spanish. The big
advantage of this book is the fact that it is bilingual - if
you're not completely sure of the Spanish, you can just
check the English!
If you're more interested in Spanish recipes as food, rather
than in using them to practice your Spanish, I can recommend
this book, written in English: Clarita's Cocina: Great Traditional Recipes
from a Spanish Kitchen. You'll find easy recipes for
tapas, appetizers and dips, soups and potages, salads and
dressings, fish, poultry and game, meats and roasts,
vegetables, etc.
